Savior, Written 10/30/14

Savior, Written 10/30/14

"You cannot save them" I am often told.
They are too close for you to reach them now.
You ought to know the harder that you hold
The faster they will slip. No matter how
your reassurance lands upon their ear,
No kindest words can once more make them whole
And whenever you assuage their fear
It is a band-aid on a bullet hole.
Though you may sweep them off their feet at first,
Their darkness will eventually return.
Though you won't run when they are at their worst
Their hurt will leave you reeling, and will burn.
You will not save them, this you know, but still,
You'll pour love on them like no other will.
